Data center

KEMP Technologies assures business continuity across data centers
KEMP Technologies launched two new appliances to provide business continuity and disaster recovery across data centers.  The LoadMaster DR (LM-DR) and Virtual LoadMaster (VLM-DR), a virtual appliance, can divert Web and application traffic from one data center to another in the event of an outage. Any data center service disruption can be quickly detected and user traffic intelligently redirected to the best available site eliminating downtime.  This assures business continuity, high availability and scalability of web-enabled applications across multiple, geographically-distributed servers and data centers. LoadMaster DR can be deployed in a distributed (Active/Active) high availability configuration, with both appliances securely synchronizing information. By introducing LoadMaster DR to a current data center, businesses can fully leverage an existing Authoritative Domain Name Services (DNS) investment with minimal integration.

Tigerpaw unveils Version 11 at inaugural user conference
Tigerpaw Software, Inc. unveiled Tigerpaw 11, its most monumental release in 26 years.  Tigerpaw has added usability enhancements and new features that help technology providers better organize their business, optimize the customer experience, fuel revenues and create a new level of excellence. Already the most comprehensive application available to help IT, telephony, security and audio/video businesses increase growth, Tigerpaw has been completely redesigned with the end-user in mind. A highlight of Tigerpaw 11 is a new user interface that stresses usability, meant to turn even novice users into power users. Tabs let you open multiple documents like accounts, quotes, service orders and invoices at the same time just like in Internet Explorer. Many windows in Tigerpaw have been combined to make it easier to find and work with related data. Tigerpaw 11 provides in-line filtering to dynamically create filter criteria right in the list. You can search by multiple items using Boolean logic, and a new column chooser lets you hide the columns that aren’t important to you. Badging has also been implemented to help you make better business decisions.

RFID

RF IDeas develops pcProx Plus
RF IDeas, Inc. is announcing pcProx Plus, a new reader that allows customers in both 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz environments to use the same reader, independent of card technology. Proximity and contactless smart cards are used in many applications in addition to their traditional use as door access cards. Many businesses are using the same card their employees carry for door or parking lot access for identification to such applications as secure printing, single sign-on, kiosks, point-of-sale and more. RF IDeas recognizes that not all proximity and contactless smart cards are easy to identify by sight. "Since cards generally look the same, but occupy two different frequencies and come in numerous proprietary configurations, a product that can read both frequencies and numerous card types is a huge benefit," says Rick Landuyt, President of RF IDeas. "By combining the proximity card reader with the contactless smart card reader we have created a product that reduces product line complexity to the customer while making installations easier and faster, which is sure to please end users."

Testing

Agilent Technologies debuts PXI-based digital multimeters
Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced two digital multimeters (DMMs) to complement its growing family of PXI products. These new 6.5 digit PXI DMMs offer the industry’s highest measurement speeds within their price range, along with excellent accuracy and stability. The M9182A 6.5 digit DMM and M9183A 6.5 digit enhanced-performance DMM measure common parameters such as DCV, DCI, ACV, ACI, 2- and 4-wire resistance and temperature. Each offers 30 parts-per-million basic DCV and 300 parts-per-million basic ACV 1-year accuracies and inputs up to 300 volts. The DMMs deliver 4,500 readings-per-second and 20,000 readings-per-second, respectively. These fast reading speeds translate into higher test system throughput and lower cost of test. The M9183A enhanced-performance DMM is capable of additional measurements, such as capacitance. This may reduce the need for additional instruments in a test rack, conserving rack space and budget. Both DMMs are compatible with PXI, PXI Hybrid, and compactPCI instrument mainframes, including Agilent’s recently announced PXI mainframe products.

Virtualization

Wyse updates virtualization software solutions
Wyse Technology announced enhancements to the company's innovative virtualization software solutions, Wyse Virtual Desktop Accelerator (VDA) and Wyse TCX Suite. Wyse VDA is a software-only solution for Wyse devices and supported PCs in desktop virtualization and cloud computing environments that accelerates the user experience by correcting issues common with long or latent networks. Wyse VDA is a cost-effective software-only alternative to hardware-based network acceleration, delivering the best user experience for the network bandwidth allocated to users. Additionally, Wyse VDA neutralizes the effects of network delays (latencies) and errors (packet loss) making it ideal for remote, branch or field-based users. The Wyse TCX Suite optimizes user experience on cloud computing and desktop virtualization platforms, delivering enhanced multimedia, audio, Flash, USB support and multi-display capabilities without the network downsides. Wyse TCX features Collaborative Processing Architecture (CPA) which intelligently takes advantage of the power of the client endpoint, reducing the need for larger servers, and delivering the best cloud computing or virtual desktop user experience available.

Citrix Synergy 2010: DataCore virtualization software improves availability and performance
At Citrix Synergy 2010, DataCore Software highlighted how joint Citrix and DataCore customers have benefited from performance gains, improved availability and cost efficiencies resulting from virtualizing their desktops, servers and storage. DataCore delivers a cost-effective storage infrastructure for Citrix Virtual Servers and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) by avoiding the need to “rip and replace” existing storage and SANs, thereby avoiding large, upfront capital expenses and greatly reducing ongoing operational costs. Virtual Desktop Infrastructures along with Citrix XenServer, XenDesktop and XenApp require failsafe and centralized storage solution, but in many cases this is jeopardized due to the high costs involved. With DataCore's storage virtualization, users can easily create cost-effective "shared" storage for virtual servers and desktops from new and existing storage capacities.
