ScanSource, Inc. moves up 2009 Fortune 1000 list
ScanSource, Inc. has moved up to number 854 on the prestigious Fortune 1000, Fortune Magazine’s annual list of America’s largest corporations, for 2009.  ScanSource jumped 47 spots from its ranking of 901 last year.  ScanSource Inc.’s sales were $2.175 billion for its 2008 fiscal year ending June 30, 2008. The Fortune 1000 is based on a number of criteria, including company revenue, profits, market value and earnings per share. "It is always an honor to be included in the Fortune 1000, let alone to continue to have a positive move up the list," said Mike Baur, CEO of ScanSource, Inc.  "This is further proof that, even in a tough economy, our reseller and vendor partners continue to focus on growing their businesses, while our employees remain committed to cultivating these relationships."

TONE’s ReliaTel version 2.5 now rated "Avaya compliant"
TONE Software Corporation announced that its ReliaTel Management Solution version 2.5 is compliant with key IP telephony solutions from Avaya.  ReliaTel enables enterprises and service providers to cost-effectively manage converging, multi-vendor voice environments across TDM, VoIP and IP telephony through a single application, using a unified management portal. Modulated data such as fax, modem and text is often overlooked in the rush to IP transition. Since just about every IP telephony installation includes at least one fax machine and larger enterprise applications often include many fax machines, as well as modems and text telephony devices, it is important to understand that they cannot be treated like voice applications. In fact, they have different transport requirements and usually require unique transport protocols if communications are to be reliable. If you operate in a Cisco environment, this thorough and well-written book is a technical resource that should be on your bookshelf…when not in your hands.

Spectrum Corporation announced the availability of its latest release of neXorce Enterprise Software.  neXorce captures real-time and historical data from multiple disparate data sources and publishes that data to call center digital signage. This new release of neXorce includes a new historical reporting module, automatic version update scheduler, enhanced Failover module, and new features to the XorceView Desktop software. XorceView is a PC desktop application utilized by agents, team leads, managers and executives. Spectrum received many requests to show a data grid of information, especially from work at home agents. With the new release of XorceView, there is a data grid feature allowing the user to display KPI’s and Metrics in a grid format.

CECConnect 2009 call for presenters
The CECConnect conference planning committee extends an invitation to submit a workshop(s) for consideration for our October 18 – 21 conference at the Sheraton Harrisburg/Hershey in Harrisburg, PA.  The focus this year is to offer more and better workshops.  While most sessions are one to two hours long, three-hour workshops will be considered, as our members have expressed interest in more in-depth coverage. Only workshops that are educational will be accepted; no sales pitches please.  If your submission is chosen, you will receive one FREE full conference registration.  In addition, the exposure, prestige and goodwill you gain from sharing your knowledge are immeasurable. New this year is the requirement that any speaker who is a vendor must have a booth in the exhibit hall. Ball State University in Indiana, Marquette University in Wisconsin, and Abilene Christian University in Texas have each been recognized for their information communications technology projects with a 2009 Institutional Excellence award from ACUTA, the Association for Information Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education. The Institutional Excellence in Information Communications Technology Awards, sponsored by PAETEC, are part of each ACUTA Annual Conference. They are ACUTA’s premier recognition of the work being done on college and university campuses. As the only international association dedicated to serving the needs of higher education information communications technology professionals, ACUTA represents nearly 2,000 individuals at some 780 institutions.

Avistar communications reports financial results
Avistar Communications Corporation announced its financial results for the three months ended March 31, 2009.  Total revenue, prepared in accordance with GAAP, was $2.6 million, as compared to $1.2 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008, an increase of 128%. Operating expense (research and development, sales and marketing, and general and administrative) was $2.9 million for the first quarter of 2009, as compared to $5.1 million for the first quarter of 2008. This represents the sixth quarter of sequential improvement, a 44% improvement against the first quarter of 2008 and the final step in the stabilization of Avistar’s costs structure as planned. Net loss was $415,000 or $0.01 per basic and diluted share, as compared to a net loss of $3.8 million, or $0.11 per basic and diluted share in the first quarter of 2008, an 89% improvement. “Our business results for the first quarter of 2009 demonstrate that Avistar’s performance is becoming more predictable and stronger. We continue to execute against our plans and meet or exceed the guidance we have provided investors,” stated Simon Moss, Chief Executive Officer of Avistar. “With net income being our primary metric, we ended the first quarter with an 89% improvement over the same quarter in 2008. Moreover, the breakdown of the revenue statement is also much improved – with product revenues increasing by 441% compared to the same quarter in 2008.”

8x8, Inc. announced that Debbie Jo Severin has been named to the position of Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Marketing. Severin brings over 20 years of marketing experience to 8x8 and was most recently Vice President of Marketing at Covad Communications, the first company to commercially deploy DSL technology in the United States.  She managed Covad's national go-to-market plan for direct sales of the company's VoIP and data services and helped grow that business to more than $178 million of revenue at the end of 2007.  Prior to Covad, Severin served as Vice President of Marketing at Valiant Networks and NorthPoint Communications, as Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Pacific Bell start-up PrimeOne Tele-TV, and as Executive Director of Marketing & Sales at Pacific Bell Video Services.  She received a Masters Degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
