Growing market demand
recognized for used AS/400 and used iSeries servers According to Abacus Solutions, a leading provider of new
and refurbished servers, the demand for used AS/400 and used iSeries servers
continues to climb across key industry segments. The company attributes this
growth to two key factors: the growing trend of on-demand business
environ-ments and the heightened focus on technology ROI. “We see tremendous demand for all
generations of used AS/400 and used iSeries models,” said Patrick Hiller, CEO
of Abacus Solutions. “The used IT equipment market, which was once considered
an alternative way of trimming IT expenses, is now mainstream. Companies of
all sizes across the globe are realizing the business benefit of refurbished
equipment - the ability to acquire their ideal IT equipment via purchase,
lease, rent, or trade, while drastically reducing costs. The end result is a
significant return-on-investment.” Visit www.abacusllc.com. Cisco

RFID
RFID market $2.71b in
2006 to $12.35b in 2010 IDTechEx has extensively researched the RFID industry to
announce new
forecasts for the years ahead. Cumulative sales of RFID tags for
sixty years until the beginning of 2006 total 2.4 billion, with 600 million
tags being sold in 2005 alone. In 2006, IDTechEx expects 1.3 billion tags to
be sold. Of that about 500 million RFID smart labels will be used for pallet
and case level tagging, but the majority will be used for a range of diverse
markets from baggage and passports to contactless payment cards and drugs. In
the short term large “closed loop” markets requiring high value RFID will
remain very profitable and companies will seek to position themselves as the
leader in hardware and integration in different vertical market segments.
Challenges with tag yield versus cost, frequency acceptance, specification
creep and required performance levels are some of the key issues that are
being resolved to grow the RFID market exponentially over the coming years to
be almost ten times the size in 2016 that it will be in 2006. IDTechEx is a knowledge based company which gives
strictly independent marketing, technical and business advice and services on
