Credit performance drops for U.S. structured finance
The first six months of 2007 have yielded noticeably weaker rating performance for U.S. structured finance compared with the same period last year, with RMBS experiencing the most dramatic deterioration, according to Fitch Ratings in its mid-year Credit Action Report. With 1,183 upgrades and 815 downgrades through June 2007, Fitch's 1.5:1 upgrade/downgrade ratio represents a drop-off from the same period last year, when Fitch reported 1,825 upgrades and 377 downgrades (4.8:1 upgrade/downgrade ratio through June 2006). A major reason for the drop-off in performance, not surprisingly, is the increased downgrade activity in RMBS. Most of the deterioration has emanated from U.S. subprime RMBS, with some spillover into the Alt-A arena, while prime RMBS is proving to be resilient and performing within expectations. The weak performance of loans issued last year, coupled with the significant rate resets scheduled for this and next year translate to continued weak performance and rating downgrades for the remainder of 2007. 'The Structured Finance Credit Action Report: Mid-year 2007' is available on the Fitch Ratings web site at www.fitchratings.com.

Capital Health System streamlines data and file management
The adoption of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in 1996 has made managing and tracking patient information a top priority for health organizations. To help meet HIPAA compliance and improve efficiency, Capital Health System has implemented a file tracking system using a healthcare records management solution from Infolinx Systems Solutions and passive UHF (ultra high frequency) RFID (radio frequency identification) technologies from Intermec. The RFID-based solution was implemented in its Sleep Centers to manage the 5,000 patient files in use there. The system is a comprehensive records solution that tracks patient files from beginning to end, including a records retention program. Infolinx, an Intermec Honours Partner, also consolidated three patient databases into one, improving Capital Health System's ability to manage and access data. Intermec Gen2 RFID tags are placed on every patient file. A series of Intermec IF4 fixed RFID readers are placed in strategic locations around the sleep center to program the tags and track them as they are used around the complex. The system automatically updates the database to provide accurate, current record location data. Intermec 750 handheld computers with IP4 RFID readers are used in situations where files can't be located and for regular audits of offices to ensure files are not misplaced.

Emerson Network Power advances intelligent monitoring and communications of power and cooling equipment
Emerson Network Power introduced two new products designed to increase the flexibility and availability of communications among data center support systems. The Liebert vNSA network switch allows multiple Ethernet-ready devices to communicate and function as a team, while the Liebert SiteLink-E provides a communications link between existing building management systems and Liebert precision cooling and AC and DC power systems. When equipped with a Liebert iCOM display, the Liebert vNSA permits interconnecting cooling units to work together and facilitates lead/lag operation. The switch supports twisted-pair RJ45 CAT5 network cables and features auto-negotiation, auto-polarity and auto-crossing, eliminating the need for crossover cables. The Liebert SiteLink-E is an Ethernet-Ready device designed to communicate with a wide-range of Liebert precision cooling units, UPS systems, and power distribution units. The product can be plugged directly into the Ethernet, which makes start-up easier and less costly. Information may be routed via a BACnet, Modbus or LONWorks network to a Building Automation System (BAS) workstation.
