HP introduces servers, customer management portfolio to reduce costs for midsize businesses
HP announced two affordable, power-efficient HP ProLiant servers as well as the market’s first Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor-based x86 platforms. In addition, the company is offering an expanded customer relationship management (CRM) portfolio, Linux-based management tools and remote access technology. All of the products and solutions are designed to help small to midsize businesses reduce costs, improve security and better manage customer relationships. The new HP ProLiant BL260c G5 offers customers the most power-efficient and affordable server blade in the industry. The BL260c costs 20 percent less and is 64 percent more power-efficient than any other blade on the market. HP also introduced the HP ProLiant DL120 G5, the most affordable rack-optimized HP ProLiant server available. In addition, HP is first to market with Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor-based x86 servers for customers of all sizes. The energy-efficient servers deliver improved processor performance as well as large memory footprints and storage capacities.

New Generation Software, Inc. (NGS) announces Decision Assist - Business Performance, featuring ready-to-run customer, sales and inventory reports and a DB2 data mart for IBM System i customers and ISV’s. Zend deepens interoperability of PHP with IBM i5/OS operating system
Zend announced enhancements across its line of PHP development and deployment products, strengthening interoperability between the popular web language and IBM’s i5/OS operating system. The Zend i5/OS products are a result of the company’s multi-year collaboration with IBM to provide i5/OS customers with solutions to support them throughout the application development lifecycle. ADC introduces enhanced TrueNet Fiber Panels
ADC announced enhancements to the company’s rack-mount TrueNet Fiber Panel (TFP) series. An integral part of the TrueNet Fiber product portfolio, the new TFP series offers more efficient deployment, user-friendly design and superior functionality. The new features of the enhanced TFPs include: a modified hinge design that allows easy removal of the panel’s door; windows that allow clear viewing of the designation cards while the door is closed; an extra latch to facilitate plugging and unplugging patch cords; three locking points on the sliding tray; extra depth in the new chassis for improved slack storage (15+ inches); and user-friendly latches on the rear cover. The panels are best suited for rack or cabinet mounting in horizontal and equipment distribution areas. Sun Microsystems awarded Department of Defense contract
Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded Sun $44.29 million funding for a five and a half-year research project focused on microchip interconnectivity via on-chip optical networks enabled by Silicon photonics and proximity communication. Part of DARPA's Ultraperformance Nanophotonic Intrachip Communication program, the project commences with an incremental delivery of $8.1 million to Sun Microsystems' Microelectronics and Laboratories divisions. Building on research done under DARPA's High Productivity Computing Systems program, Sun's new project will accelerate the development of lower cost, high performance and high productivity systems. The project presents a unique opportunity to develop supercomputers through interconnecting an array of low-cost chips, with the potential to overcome the fundamental cost and performance limits of scaling up today's large computer systems.
