Air filters

Universal Air Filter offers filter fan guard retrofit
Universal Air Filter has a solution for design, manufacturing and procurement engineers who purchase cabinet cooling fan guard filter assemblies with low-grade, non-compliant filter media. Engineers can simply swap out the included media with UAF’s certified media, producing a compliant filter. Or UAF can produce a framed filter assembly with compliant media to serve as a fan guard and match the fan profile for quick and easy installation. UAF’s one-piece framed filter assembly includes a filter, mounting bracket, fan guard and air flow plenum, allowing a quick installation without installation kits and procedures. In addition, UAF offers special metal finishes to match existing enclosures and/or provide protection in corrosive indoor or outdoor environments. Filters with Quadrafoam media also provide an additional layer of protection for flammability, ultraviolet light, hydrolytic stability and fungus resistance. In its continued quest to lead the industry, Universal Air Filter recently announced that all of its products are now REACH compliant along with RoHS compliant.

Cisco

Cisco wants to better connect entertainers and fans
Cisco is extending its empire into pop culture with its new Eos social-entertainment platform of software tools for media companies to host their own networking sites for artists, actors and movies. Cisco and entertainment executives say it has the potential to change the relationship between entertainers and fans. They also say it will help media companies capitalize on the digital era and restore revenue declines from piracy and changing consumer behavior, such as ditching higher-margin music CDs for single songs bought online. Cisco wants to sell its back-end technology to media conglomerates. The Eos software will enable entertainment companies to create and manage Web sites designed to strengthen ties with fans — as well as develop new ways to make money — for its hundreds of artists and various entertainment properties. Cisco's new media business model is to license its technology to the entertainment companies and take a share of the advertising and e-commerce sales generated through the sites. In addition to technology, Cisco will also provide companies with data about fan behavior.

Fax-over-IP

SIP Forum's Fax-over-IP Interoperability Task Group reaches important milestone
The SIP Forum announced that the IP communications association's Fax-over-IP Interoperability Task Group has published its formal FoIP Problem statement - and in the process reached an important milestone for its FoIP initiative. The SIP Forum chartered the FoIP Interoperability Task Group to investigate interoperability issues with the deployment of fax services, specifically ITU-T T.38, in SIP networks. The issues surrounding IP-based fax and the use of T.38 make it difficult for users to determine if T.38 can or will work reliably and thus offer an alternative to traditional TDM-based fax transport. While the T.38 protocol, approved by the ITU-T in 1998, was designed to allow fax machines and computer-based fax to carry forward in a transitioning communications infrastructure of both IP- and TDM-based telephony, today there are enough problems and confusion among vendors, enterprises and service providers to significantly slow the use of IP as a real-time fax transport. Available for download HERE, the FoIP Task Group Problem Statement details the problems the task group has chosen to address.
