Cisco
Cisco to drop HP as certified reseller
Three months after Hewlett Packard Development Company LP announced a friendly merger agreement with 3Com Corp. and a year after Cisco Systems Inc. entered the server space, Cisco said it will not renew HP’s systems integrator contract. Cisco last March announced it would compete with large server vendors such as HP with its Unified Computing System blade server series. Keith Goodwin, senior vice president of Cisco's worldwide partner organization, said in a webcast that the changing IT landscape, the evolving role of the network and his company's competition with system vendor means it can no longer share partner benefits with HP. "We're taking this action to be transparent to both partners and customers,” Goodwin said. “We will compete with HP for future business." HP also announced that it has expanded a storage switch reseller contract with QLogic Corp., a product area typically filled by Cisco.

HP helps telecoms create unified customer profiles to enable more personalized services
HP unveiled a telecom solution that helps service providers better serve the millions of mobile customers who use the internet through high-speed LTE (long-term evolution) networks. HP Subscriber Data Management (SDM) enables service providers to integrate the valuable customer (subscriber) data that is dispersed across an organization in multiple repositories, including the Home Subscriber Server, location solutions, data services platforms, user device profiles, and operations and business support systems (OSS and BSS). HP Unified Profile provides a single, virtual view of all personal, contextual and behavioral information about each customer. The core software elements in HP Unified Profile are HP Virtual Identity and Profile Broker, which performs the data federation, and HP OpenCall Profile Manager, which acts as a consolidated data repository. HP Home Subscriber Server (HSS) lowers costs and simplifies operations when used with HP Unified Profile. As the main database in the network, HP HSS provides core mobility management in next-generation environments such as LTE.

Leasing
CIT Group Inc. offers insights in podcast series
Demand for technology leasing continues to grow as customers look to contain procurement costs and technology manufacturers seek to boost sales, according to CIT Group Inc. This perspective on current vendor finance trends is one of several insights in “The Changing Landscape of Vendor Financing,” the latest installment of CIT’s award-winning “5 Minute Capital” podcast series, which features senior CIT executive commentary on current market conditions and industry trends. Ron Arrington, President of Vendor Finance for CIT Group Inc., explains how technology leasing benefits manufacturers, resellers and distributors aiming to sell equipment in a difficult economic climate and in an increasingly competitive marketplace. “Leasing programs are a huge differentiator for manufacturers selling directly to customers, as well as through resellers. By providing a financial package along with the product, it enables them to go to market with a more effective offering that will provide the customer with flexibility and increased purchasing power.”
