COMMON prepares business computing certification for
Orlando show

COMMON announced the CBCA and the COMMON Certified Business Computing Professional (CCBCP) at last year's show in Reno, Nevada. The CBCA, which is targeted at college graduates and others just starting out their IT careers, is a general-purpose certification that demonstrates the holder has a firm grasp of a broad range of business computing concepts. The CCBCP, which won't debut until the 2011 show, will take the CBCA up a notch, and is aimed at people with two to three years of on-the-job experience. The CBCA will be loosely tied to the System i platform. Owing to the small size of many System i shops, IT professionals who work there are required to be knowledgeable in a variety of different skill sets. While the CBCA curriculum is not yet nailed down 100 percent, the general categories that are expected to be covered in the exam include: business computing terms and concepts; operating systems, platforms, and environments; system hardware; programming and databases; business processes; networking and telephony; security and regulatory concepts; and interpersonal development and skills.

HP

Cloud Security Alliance and HP identify top cloud security threats in new research report
The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) and HP announced new research findings that detail the potential threats surrounding the use of cloud services. The research, commissioned by HP, was designed to help companies understand current and future threats, and to provide remediation strategies to ensure that business processes as well as data remain secured in the cloud. The peer-reviewed research paper, entitled “Top Cloud Security Threats Report,” is the result of a broad examination of information security experts across 29 enterprises, solution providers, and consulting firms exposed to some of the world’s most demanding and complex cloud environments. As a member of the CSA, HP sponsored the research to educate companies about potential cloud service threats so they can enact best practices. In addition, HP offers an integrated security portfolio that consists of products, consulting, training and managed services designed to reduce cloud complexity as well as mitigate risk.
