On behalf of the Convention Committee, a gigantic thank you to those who attended the Winter Conference in Orlando. I hope each and every one of you came home with one new friendship and one deal… at least! It’s always a great experience for me to see new faces and see my old friends. I always come back learning something new that I would not have known sitting at my desk that helps in closing deals. I learn something new about someone else’s business, learn something about the industry…. Learn something… something that I would not know if I weren’t there.
Of course we had an Uberfabulous opening Cocktail Party and Unbelievable closing at the House of Blues! We drank… and ate, and “networked” and had a blast, and thank god, no pictures were taken…only kidding. I saw a lot of cards being given out, so it was all good! During the meeting we were updated on governmental issues and how it impacts our industry, we had break out roundtables, had a program on how to tell if someone is lying to you, were updated on IBM policy, our general board meeting, ethics update, had a rained out Golf Outing and Greatest Soaking Wet Race. All said and done, at the end of our three days, we gained knowledge! Knowledge sells! Attending the roundtables in your brokerage area, you learn “a little something”… it makes a difference…. That little bit of knowledge can make a big difference in the outcome of your sales over the broker’s that didn’t come to the meeting. Think about it! You can attend the meeting, or you can ATTEND THE MEETING! Knowledge is priceless.
No worries, if you missed the Winter Conference, we have plenty of ongoing opportunities. Next up…
Germany: April 15-16 $175. USD
This is a one day event geared to our German contingency to be held in Munich. What’s better than meeting old friends, making new friends, sharing information about industry and building an ASCDI presence in Germany? You will get together in the morning and have a formal, informal meeting (how’s that?), then have a brewery tour and a light lunch; at 6pm you are off to a Knights Banquet where you will drink beer and eat food with your hands and get “mildy punished” if you don’t behave yourself. (only ASCDI ... this sounds like a fun event!!!)
Dublin, Ireland (European Conference) June 23-25
See details on the web – going to be a blast!
Minneapolis, MN July 14 Midwest Summer Event
ASCDI is here for you, to create a forum to promote an exchange of ideas among our membership, the industry and manufacturers, help us to help you do just that. Show up!

ASCDI Charities
ASCDI and NATD support God's Littlest Angels Orphanage in Haiti
The ASCDI and NATD Charities are supporting God's Littlest Angels orphanage located in the mountains above Pétion-Ville, close to the village of Fermathe. Established in the early nineties, GLA is actively helping the Haitian people rebuild their lives, and to rescue Haiti’s children. GLA was chosen as a focused target for ASCDI’s and NATD’s combined charity response to the earthquake. After the earthquake, GLA helped organize direct relief efforts for the people living near the orphanage, arranging for tents, tarps, blankets, towels, sheets, food and more to be flown in. The organization reports that it is still distributing donations and has so far sent five forty-foot containers to Haiti and chartered three airplanes of supplies. Children from other orphanages, which were destroyed, have been taken in. Some of GLA’s own staff’s family members were killed or injured in the quake as well. Today, with the help of charities such as the NATD and ASCDI, the GLA is in what it calls a “new normal,” finding the strength to run both an orphanage and school as before and being a source of emergency relief for nearby people and communities.

More companies choosing HP over Sun and IBM for increased flexibility, lower total cost of ownership
HP announced that the number of global companies replacing Sun and IBM systems with more flexible HP solutions offering a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) is rising.
HP also is providing new tools and support services to simplify and streamline the migration process for clients. A recent research study showed clients are rating HP Integrity servers and the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system higher than comparable solutions from both IBM and Sun on several mission-critical computing criteria, including Observed Performance and Observed Availability. Over a three-year span, HP-UX 11i v3 running on HP Integrity BL870c delivers a 23 percent lower TCO than IBM AIX 6.1 running on IBM BladeCenter JS23. HP has a special offer for clients who purchase HP-UX 11i v3 and support between now and July 31, 2010. With this offer, organizations can receive an HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure and HP Integrity BL860c server blade starter kit at no additional cost.
