Certifications
CompTIA and SNIA to produce “CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA” certification
CompTIA, the global non-profit association for the information technology (IT) industry, and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), the global non-profit association for the storage industry, announced they are collaborating to develop and market a new professional certification for IT workers responsible for storage networking and information management. The credential, “CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA,” will be a comprehensive validation of the knowledge and skills necessary to support various solutions and technologies in data storage, storage networking, data protection and the underlying interconnect technologies. A beta release of this new examination and certification is scheduled for Q2 in 2011 with global availability in the second half of 2011. Communications have been initiated with curriculum and training partners worldwide, through both the CompTIA and SNIA organizations. The future of public cloud computing
Public cloud computing revenues are set to increase well over 100% from 2010 to 2014. This staggering increase is changing the IT infrastructure paradigm in small offices/home offices (SOHO) (1-4 employees) and small businesses (5-99 employees). In-Stat’s research shows that SOHO and small businesses will comprise roughly 65% of the public cloud computing market in 2014.
"Web hosting and data storage are the most obvious IT needs that can be addressed by public cloud services, such as Amazon Web Services’ S3 and EC2," says Greg Potter, Research Analyst. "With the advent of SaaS (Software as a Service) offerings such as Google Docs, Salesforce.com and Microsoft Live, many businesses are realizing that much of their IT needs can be fulfilled without the need for expensive networking equipment and high-end computers."
In fact, many small businesses are re-visiting the old idea of using thin clients for most of their employees, as the need for increased processing power is rendered moot by the cloud. This has been spurred on most recently by the introduction of the Chrome OS from Google with computer companies such as Acer, announcing devices which will utilize the OS. The Chrome OS might not work particularly well for businesses, but with devices such as these there is no reason why virtualization of a more traditional Windows or Linux office environment could not be easily accomplished. For the SOHO and small business market, there is considerable opportunity for a variety of cloud service providers. Small business spending on public cloud services in 2010 will be roughly $3 Billion, a considerable amount.

Veghte will highlight how HP’s integration of TippingPoint, ArcSight Inc. and Fortify Software, coupled with its product leadership in IT and application life cycle management, positions the company to lead the security industry’s transition to a new generation of solutions that support a world of continuous connectivity.

Leasing
First U.S. Finance partners with SEC to offer 100% financing
First U.S. Finance (FUSF), a California-based equipment leasing and financing firm, announced a partnership with Semiconductor Equipment Corp. (SEC) to provide a wide variety of equipment leasing and financing programs on a national scale. Financing programs are flexible from 3 to 5 year terms with packages starting at $15,000.00 up to multi-million dollar projects. FUSF can combine a variety of equipment in one contract so an entire assembly area can be easily equipped. Through the FUSF leasing and financing programs, SEC customers nationwide can receive 100% financing for all their production equipment including add-on costs like installation, training and warranties. Customers typically only pay documentation fees and one month advance payment. This is a great benefit to the semiconductor and technology markets which are now poised for rapid growth in 2011 and beyond.

DataCore SANsymphony-V release wins strong support
DataCore Software announced widespread alliance partner support for its SANsymphony-V software. Two years in the making, SANsymphony-V is a next-generation storage virtualization software solution that enables IT organizations to eliminate storage-related barriers to realizing the financial and operational goals of their virtualization initiatives. SANsymphony-V enables enterprises to use existing equipment and conventional storage devices to achieve the robust and responsive shared storage environment necessary to support highly dynamic virtual IT environments. Moreover, the software greatly reduces risk by insulating users and applications from the impact of changes, disruptions and growth demands at the storage level. SANsymphony-V frees customers from hardware vendor lock-in by decoupling the virtual infrastructure from storage disks, and by optimizing the performance and use of standard storage devices.
