Nexsan highlighted in data protection report for features and efficiency
Nexsan announced that its iSeries iSCSI SAN solution was highlighted in an Outlook Report prepared by Storage Strategies NOW titled "Data Protection and Recovery in the Small and Mid-sized Business (SMB)." The report notes that until recently, the SMB market for data protection has been underserved, even though surveys conducted in 2010 revealed that SMBs have made data protection the highest priority for IT spending. The Nexsan iSeries, a complete iSCSI SAN solution that can scale from a few terabytes up to hundreds of terabytes, enables users to consolidate multiple servers and storage systems into a single infrastructure that provides enterprise-class storage. Designed for mid-sized companies and mid-tier deployments in large organizations, the iSeries offers twice the capacity of similar solutions at a fraction of the cost. Built for enterprise-class applications, the Nexsan iSeries provides tier-1 full redundancy and high performance at tier-2 prices. Because the iSeries combines SAS and SATA capacity, IT managers do not have to choose between a performance- or capacity-driven system, and can easily scale by adding more SAS or SATA storage, eliminating the need to add SAN appliances.

Infonetics: High speed network port market to hit $52B in 2015
Market research firm Infonetics Research released its 1G/10G/40G/100G Networking Ports market size and forecast report, which tracks 1 Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit optical and Ethernet ports on enterprise and service provider equipment. "There is a lot of excitement these days around 100G and 100GE, and whether or how soon 100G prices will cause 40G sales to decline. The truth is that we are at the start of a very long period where 100G and 100GE will be the major port player from 2015 through 2030, with bare beginnings of just several hundreds of 100GE ports on service provider routers shipped to date, and a few inter-city 100G WDM routes deployed. Already street pricing looks very competitive, and with a lot of 100G technology development in motion -- more focused than 40G -- we expect 100G pricing to get to 2X 40G pricing in the 2013 timeframe, which should be the turning point for 100G versus 40G in the service provider market," notes Michael Howard, principal analyst for carrier and data center networks and co-founder of Infonetics Research. The number of 1G, 10G, 40G and 100G network ports shipped on service provider and enterprise equipment in 2010 jumped 43% over the previous year, to 184 million, and manufacturer revenue grew 26%, to over $33 billion. Equipment manufacturer revenue from 1G, 10G, 40G and 100G networking ports is forecast by Infonetics to grow to almost $52 billion in 2015, as enterprises and service providers continue to build out their network infrastructure to respond to growing levels of traffic.

Security
Microsoft, Apple, Adobe, Oracle push out critical patches
Security updates from major companies dominated headlines recently, as Microsoft, Apple, Adobe and Oracle pushed out critical patches. Many of the fixed vulnerabilities, if exploited, would have given remote attackers the ability to execute code on the compromised systems. Microsoft released its Patch Tuesday updates, fixing 64 bugs across 17 bulletins. In this biggest Patch Tuesday to-date, the fixes for Internet Explorer and for the file-sharing protocol Samba had the highest priority. Oracle addressed 73 vulnerabilities in its quarterly update. The Critical Patch Update affected several Oracle products other than the flagship database software. Apple announced three minor updates, for iOS, Safari and a general update for Mac OS X. Apple also addressed the fraudulent certificates mistakenly issued by a Comodo partner mid-March in the Security Update for Mac OS X. Adobe released an updated Flash Player to fix yet another zero-day bug. An exploit, a malicious Flash file embedded inside a Microsoft Word document emailed as an attachment to unsuspecting victims, was already in the wild, according to the security advisory issued earlier.
