AOTMP Report: study shows inconsistent adoption of telecommunications risk mitigation practices across enterprises
AOTMP announced the release of its latest report titled "Fixed and Mobile Enterprise Adoption Trends: Risk Management." Representing findings from 201 enterprise professionals across 22 different industry sectors, the new report spotlights adoption trends associated with telecommunications risk management practices, addressing such topics as infrastructure reliability, contract and budget liability, and disaster recovery planning. According to AOTMP research, significantly more enterprises are focused on mitigating risks associated with financial loss, as compared to risks that hinder productivity and cause information security threats. Priorities vary based on industry vertical sector. While retail organizations are likely to focus on productivity loss due to wireless outages, technology-based companies were identified as being the most concerned with assessing threats around security. Based on enterprise feedback, only 58% of all organizations have a fully deployed disaster recovery plan in place to address such threats. To download a complimentary summary of the research findings from this report, learn more about risk management best practices, or to view a comprehensive listing of all annual studies completed by AOTMP, visit www.aotmp.com.

Opengear strengthens its security with Kerberos support
Opengear announced it has strengthened its already robust range of security options by adding support for Kerberos, the network authentication protocol developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and used by leading IT and security vendors. Kerberos was designed by MIT to address the common vulnerability of unencrypted passwords being sent over a network. Using the Kerberos protocol, a client can securely prove its identity to a server (and vice versa) across an insecure network connection using secret-key cryptography. After a client and server have used Kerberos to prove their identity, they can encrypt all of their communications to assure privacy and data integrity as they go about their business. Opengear is adding Kerberos support across all of its advanced console servers. Opengear already supports leading security protocols, standards and authentication methods including Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS); RSA SecurID system; The FIPS 140-2 module; and other security protocols.

Prognosis for UC is the first solution in the market that provides proactive insight into a Lync environment through the real-time and historical visibility of server performance, call activity, infrastructure capacity and voice quality. The adoption of Lync has been rapid, with nearly 3 million enterprise users now relying on Lync. Many organizations are able to access Lync licenses through their existing Microsoft purchasing arrangements, making adoption of Lync a compelling proposition, and a strong propellant for UC market growth. Paul McNamara, IR’s Head of Unified Communications, said “A successful Lync environment requires the server, network and telephony teams to work together to provide a complete solution. Prognosis bridges the gap between these teams, providing visibility of the whole Microsoft Lync ecosystem, through a single pane of glass.”
