North American telephone system manufacturers go global
North American telephone system manufacturers are increasingly offering telephony systems outside of North America in other world regions - Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) and Asia Pacific (APAC).
Database publisher and analyst group TelecomTactics (www.telecomweb.com/databases/telecomtactics), part of The Telecom Intelligence Group at Access Intelligence, finds that approximately 70% of telephony platforms (Key, PBX and IP-PBX systems) from leading North American manufacturers are also available in the EMEA region, while more than 60% are currently available in the CALA and APAC regions. Telephony manufacturers are making international expansion and worldwide distribution a priority for several reasons, including increased market presence and a globalization of business and the economy. Leading market research firm InfoTech projects that total global shipments of converged telephony systems (telephony systems that support both packet and circuit switching) will grow 38% over 2005 levels through 2010. According to InfoTech's InfoTrack for Enterprise Communications 2005 global report, EMEA will continue to represent the largest opportunity, while APAC will have the largest rate of growth, equaling that of North America. ^Back To Top

Carrier Access Corporation reported second quarter 2006 revenue of $24.9 million, up approximately 32% from $18.9 million reported in the second quarter of 2005. Revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2006 was $46.8 million, up 39% from $33.6 million reported from the comparative six months ended June 30, 2005. "We are pleased with our second quarter 2006 financial results," said Roger Koenig, Carrier Access' president and chief executive officer. "We grew revenue by about 32% quarter over quarter, maintained a stable gross margin and were able to break even for the quarter on a Non-GAAP basis. We achieved these results even while increasing our development expenses by $3.3 million to $7.6 million quarter over quarter. In addition, we increased our cash, cash equivalents and investments in marketable securities by $2.2 million and were cash flow positive for the fifth consecutive quarter. We continue to believe that our major investments in research and development in 2006 to develop and accelerate development programs for next generation wireless and converged business access products will favorably position us to enable the continued expansion of multimedia communication services for our customers."

VoIP service revenue doubles in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific in 2005
VoIP service revenue roughly doubled in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific from 2004 to 2005 and is expected to continue booming at least over the next 5 years, says Infonetics Research in its new VoIP Services report. A combined $120 billion will be spent on VoIP services between 2005 and 2009 in the 3 regions. "VoIP services continue to pick up fast in North America and in many parts of Europe, particularly in central and Eastern Europe, where small businesses have a strong appetite for business trunking, IP Centrex and VoIP VPN services," said Stéphane Téral, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "In Asia Pacific, VoIP service revenue about doubled that of North America and Europe in 2004, and continues at a blazing pace. China will likely emerge as a major VoIP business market in the coming years because the Chinese government is encouraging carriers to accelerate the migration to IP Centrex and IP PBX from their existing TDM Centrex."
