Mitel

Mitel delivers direct SIP connection to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unified Messaging
Mitel announced it has further advanced the completeness and ease of integration between its flagship Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unified Messaging with direct Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) connection capabilities. Mitel's embedded SIP integration eliminates the need for a separate SIP gateway as a go-between from a 3300 ICP SIP connection to an Exchange Server 2007 resulting in support for multiple forms of Unified Communications including voice, email and fax. Mitel can deliver this capability to existing 3300 ICP customers through a software upgrade that simply delivers the SIP server's (gateway) functionality resulting in reduced complexity, time and cost for our customers. Native support of SIP on the 3300 ICP enables customers to take full advantage of the deployment of open standards and maximize their investment either in a Mitel or a multi-vendor environment that supports an open standards approach.

Sipera enables secure deployment of WiFi dual-mode phones and IMS/UMA networks
Sipera Systems announced new functionality for the Sipera IPCS 520 including a security policy framework, intrusion detection and prevention functionality and troubleshooting features. This enables comprehensive security for service providers offering revenue enhancing services based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) or Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technologies. With WiFi dual-mode phones, consumers and enterprise employees can use cellular networks when roaming, but also connect to WiFi access points and use VoIP, with the same device. To secure this service, the Sipera IPCS 520 serves as an IDS/IPS security solution at the service provider edge while the enterprise-class Sipera IPCS products are deployed in the enterprise DMZ, allowing secure integration of dual-mode phones with the corporate IP PBX. This complete solution thwarts VoIP exploits that are growing as dual mode phones and other VoIP services become more prevalent.

BMI estimates that the 2007 music ringtone market will dip to $550 million (U.S.) in retail sales, down $50 million (U.S.) from calendar year 2006. BMI projects that ringbacks will generate approximately $65 million (U.S.) in retail content revenues in 2007.  This is BMI’s first market estimate of the long-awaited rollout of the ringback tone market. A ringback tone is a musical work that is performed to the caller when they place a call to a participating mobile subscriber. BMI’s estimates are based on more than 520 million individual, detailed ringtone transactions analyzed by the organization over the past 12 consecutive quarters. BMI tracks census sales data on more than 325 outlets for the sale of mobile entertainment in the U.S.
