Zeacom Communications Center now certified interoperable with Cisco's Unified Communications Manager
Zeacom Communications Center version 4.1 is now certified interoperable with Cisco's Unified Communications Manager versions 4.2, 4.3, 5.0 and 5.1. This means contact centers can now combine the two solutions to create a full featured multimedia solution and rest assured that all system operations will be completely reliable, as Zeacom’s ZCC Console 4.1 has passed the muster of interoperability testing through Cisco’s Product Compatibility Testing process, carried out at its testing laboratories in the U.S.  As a result, ZCC Console 4.1 has attained Cisco’s Technology Developer Affiliate status and thus will be listed in the Cisco Technology Developer Program.  Zeacom made news in October when it was announced that Communications Center had been named a winner of a "Best of Show" Award for Best SMB Solution at TMC's INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference and EXPO West 2007.

Nortel

Nortel bets on Microsoft NAP
Nortel is strengthening its Microsoft integration by supporting Microsoft's Network Access Protection (NAP) and its critical Statement of Health (SOH) protocol. The move, Nortel said, is to help enterprises contend with one of the key barriers of access control adoption, namely complexity. Nortel's Secure Network Access (SAN) technologies now fully support SOH, which helps determine the security posture of an endpoint. With the full embrace of NAP, Nortel is placing itself in the Microsoft camp as an alternative to Cisco's Network Access Control (NAC).  Microsoft's NAP access control architecture is part of the upcoming Windows Server 2008 release and will support both Windows Vista and XP desktops as endpoints. Nortel's full embrace of Microsoft's NAP will include support across a broad range of Nortel equipment.  Nortel announced a number of new additions to its Ethernet Routing Switch Portfolio, including updates to the 2500, 4500 and 5500 series of Ethernet Routing Switches that will all support Nortel's SNA access control.

SIP trunking

How Can VARs Sell SIP Trunking to SMBs?
Today most small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) do not use VoIP and their perception is that IP-based communications solutions are better suited for large enterprises.  According to Business Solutions Magazine, September 2007, in a survey conducted by Info-Tech Research Group of more than 1850 SMBs, only about 1/3 of those surveyed are using VoIP with even fewer using SIP Trunks.  At the same time there is a growing number of SMBs who realize that there are benefits to be gained by simplifying how they communicate, both internally and with outside vendors.  VARs can successfully sell SIP Trunking services to SMBs and increase their revenues, but the question remains of how and where to begin. The best place to start is by getting to know their customers.
