The NATD is supporting Hannover Fairs USA, the U.S. subsidiary of CeBIT organizer Deutsche Messe AG, in promoting IPCentral and WIRELESSWorld@CeBIT 2008, two special display and forum areas at CeBIT 2008 focused on IP and Mobile & Wireless applications and products. The NATD is pleased to invite its members and affiliates to exhibit and attend.
CeBIT 2008 will be held from March 4-9, 2008 in Hannover, Germany. The show is the largest international Information and Communications Technology event - it features 27 halls, more than 6000 exhibitors from 77 countries, and 480,000 attendees from 100 countries. IP desk phones sold in 2008 to create 47 million kg of e-waste
OnRelay, a UK telecommunications software company, issued a wake up call for
European businesses to reconsider their investment in redundant IP telephony hardware like desk phones. Calculating the real cost and waste implications of IP telephony, Marie
Wold, president and CFO of OnRelay, notes, "An enterprise deployment of 10,000 IP extensions includes a large hidden cost of LAN switches, routers, cabling and power supplies required to support the IP voice traffic. Of the staggering EUR10.9 ($15.8M) total cost of the IP telephony deployment, 80% is related to the desk phones and corresponding LAN upgrades." Wold asserts that most, if not all, employees can manage their office communications equally well or better with just their mobiles, thereby dramatically reducing the cost of the IP telephony implementation. Regardless, 22 million IP desk phones were still sold in 2007, according to research by In-Stat Market Research. Organizations globally will ultimately be held accountable for the following amount of waste from their 2008 IP telephony investments: 47 million kg of solid waste - the weight of a WWII battleship; and 1.5M km of cabling - enough cable to stretch to the moon and back. Add to this the millions of cubic metres of packaging, tons of plastic, PVC, lead, Bromine-based flame retardant, Beryllium, Cadmium, Chromium and Mercury.

Avaya mid-market momentum cited in independent report
Avaya Inc. announced that it achieved significant growth in the number of end users it supports at mid-sized sized companies worldwide. According to a report from Canalys, Avaya added seven million mid-market end users across the globe in the last three years -- about equivalent to the population of the City of London. Avaya cited the Unified Communications Call Control report (Q2 2007) from Canalys, which specializes in delivering market data, analysis and advice to the world's leading technology vendors. Canalys tracked the number of Avaya users between 2005 and 2007. The Avaya portfolio for mid-sized businesses includes solutions such as Unified Communications solutions and customer service applications. Avaya also said that Jenne, a major North American distributor of networking and IP telephony products, will distribute Avaya solutions for mid-sized businesses.

Infusion Software launches Certified Consultant program
Infusion Software announced the launch of its Infusion Certified Consultant channel program. The True Small Business (TSB) market is among the fastest growing in the US. snom technology AG and Camrivox Ltd announced they have joined forces to provide a web-delivered CTI product for snom IP phone users, both new and existing. Through this partnership Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) for On Demand CRM tools such as Salesforce.com is now possible with snom IP phones regardless of the PBX infrastructure used.
