Wi-Fi Telephony

Not long ago the title of this book might not have made much sense. Now, with wireless LANs practically everywhere, the tide of Voice over IP couldn't avoid the "Wi-Fi connection." If your wired network will be dealing with VoIP, you'll eventually see that traffic on the air, too. This book is a good way to get a handle on the many technologies and issues involved. Whether your background is voice or data, there's help here for understanding the other side of the shop: Chapter 1 covers the basics of legacy telephony and signaling; Chapter 2 does the same for IP data networking. The other technologies get chapters too: VoIP protocols, cellular services, and wireless LANs. The heart of this book, however, is in the convergence of these technologies and the issues that arise because of the mix. The technical level seems just right. The authors assume no prior knowledge for the start, but deliver more detail than anybody but a design engineer could want.

FOSE, GovSec, U.S. Law announce increased attendance results for 2009

PAETEC expands Equipment for Services program
PAETEC Holding Corp. announced that the company has expanded its popular Equipment for Services (EFS) program to all of its 42 state operating territory utilizing a single pricing and quoting tool. The EFS program takes a portion of a business’ overall telecommunications profitability and applies it to a third party lease for needed hardware and software, such as a new PBX, router, copier, software applications or even office furniture.  Since the program’s inception ten years ago, it has financed more than $80,000,000 in equipment with the typical subsidy from $16,000 up to $500,000 or more.  The success of the program is rooted in proprietary software that determines profit margin of an overall telecommunications solution. A portion of the profit margin is reserved to meet corporate profitability guidelines and the remainder may be used for an equipment lease subsidy. Often, the overall solution, including an EFS equipment subsidy, may deliver newer, more robust solutions with industry-leading service for less cost than their incumbent carrier.
