ScanSource woos Avaya resellers with fast pricing
ScanSource Communications Europe has launched an online pricing tool aimed at UK Avaya partners. System Central 24/7 is designed to provide resellers of Avaya's enterprise solutions with fast and accurate quotations and enable them to track their designs transparently. It has been used by ScanSource’s US sister company for six years. Kim Jennings, sales manager at ScanSource, which bought UK Avaya distributor MTV Telecom in 2008, said her firm aimed to get pricing to resellers within 48 hours. At the same time it provides resellers with a secure repository of quotations they have previously compiled, which they can update with their latest user requirements, she said. Additionally, resellers will be kept informed at each stage of the design process by receiving notifications from System Central via email enabling them to view the quotation.

Broadband

Over 1 billion global broadband subscribers by 2013
Consumer enthusiasm for broadband service continues unabated, reports In-Stat. During calendar year 2009, an average of 8.8 million new broadband subscribers worldwide signed up for service each month. By 2013, In-Stat forecasts that the number of global broadband subscribers will surpass 1 billion. Recent research by In-Stat found that as of December 2009, there were 578 million worldwide broadband subscribers, an increase of 99 million over the year-end 2008 subscriber total. DSL, mobile wireless and cable modem service are the leading access technologies, providing 89% of worldwide broadband connections. Mobile wireless broadband is the second largest access technology (behind DSL) with 18% of total subscribers. Over the next few years, the number of households with multiple broadband connections will increase significantly. These multiple connection households will commonly have a wired broadband access technology, like DSL or cable modem service, along with a mobile wireless broadband connection.

IP PBX

3CX and Beronet announce strategic partnership to provide complete IP PBX solution
3CX and Beronet announced a strategic technology partnership that pairs 3CX's software-based IP-PBX with Berofix VoIP gateways. The partnership ensures that both companies will commit to do ongoing interoperability testing, ensuring that customers can buy best of breed VoIP software and hardware, yet still be assured of an end-to-end solution supported by both vendors. The IP PBX and VoIP Gateway certified interoperability allows companies to immediately realize the cost-saving benefits of VoIP, whilst utilizing existing ISDN lines and thus enabling a gradual transition to VoIP. The Berofix VoIP Gateways are available as add-in cards or as separate stand-alone units. In both cases they fully support virtualized environments and do not require operating system drivers. The range starts with 4S0 (4BRI) and goes up to 4E1 connections. The cards can be upgraded allowing the customer full flexibility. A GSM and Analog interface module is in development. Selected 3CX and Beronet distributors will be offering special bundle pricing.

Market

Global IP PBX market to reach $9.05 billion by 2015
Global Industry Analysts, Inc. announces the release of a comprehensive global report on IP PBX markets. Greater operational flexibility, reduced telephony transport costs, and enhanced ability to acclimatize organizational trends will stimulate growth in the worldwide IP PBX market. New and emerging needs to support customer requirements like offsite location support as well as improved disaster recovery and survivability options is expected to cast a shadow over the conventional PBX, propelling sales in global IP PBX market to $9.05 billion by 2015.  Driving the wireless telecom sector will be the replacement of current traditional time division multiplexing (TDM) systems with newer IP PBX systems. Certain business verticals such as government, finance, medical centers, call centres and retail channels have shown rising interest in deploying IP PBX solutions. Greenfield opportunities, expiry of hosted telephony contracts, and office re-locations and consolidations are other major factors fueling growth.

Unified communications

SIP trunking and wireless poised to bolster unified communications market
Two trends are poised to enhance the richness of unified communications, reports In-Stat. SIP trunking, now touted as a cost-saving mechanism, will ultimately enable interconnection of unified communications islands, thus enriching communications across suppliers, business partners and customers. Second, the wireless industry’s evolution toward higher data rates is enabling the extension of unified communications to smartphones and other wireless data devices. “The market is shifting to unified communications as a ‘cloud’ service,” says David Lemelin, In-Stat analyst. “Infrastructure providers like Avaya, Cisco, BroadSoft and Microsoft are working closely with hosted VoIP service providers to enable this shift.” Recent research by In-Stat indicates that unified communications service revenues will rise to reach over $17 billion by 2013. The product side of unified communications is continuing to grow as well. Revenues will grow nearly three-fold between 2009 and 2013. Survey respondents ranked collaboration (file sharing) while in conference as the application of most importance.
