Amcom Software’s MediaSTAR receives Department of Defense accreditation
Amcom Software Inc. announced that its MediaSTAR contact center recording and quality management system has received Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification and is now listed under the Department of Defense’s Unified Capabilities Approved Products List. This encompasses Information Assurance (IA) Accreditation from the Defense IA/Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) and Interoperability Certification (IOC) from the Joint Staff (JS). This accreditation means MediaSTAR provides the highest levels of security and interoperability as required by the U.S. Government and the U.S. Military. MediaSTAR enables military bases to record all calls going in and out of their contact center to improve service for internal and external callers. This is possible through quality management tools such as real-time audio monitoring and line status. MediaSTAR is invaluable for training operators on particular skills as well as having a repository to store all call recordings where they can be reviewed and used for security, legal and compliance requirements.

eTelemetry solution now rated “Avaya Compliant”
eTelemetry, Inc. announced that its LENS and Locate911 solutions are compliant with a key telephony communication solution from Avaya. LENS (Locate911 Emergency Notification System) and Locate911-N enable organizations to identify the exact station that initiated an emergency call and where to find them so that internal personnel can provide first response and direct emergency services. The LENS On-Site Notifications deliver location information via a Windows-based desktop alert agent and via email to multiple recipients. Industry-first map links within alerts provide added insurance that responders will know where to go in an emergency. LENS limits organizational liability and helps meet E911 regulations by providing alerts including life-saving location information for emergency responders immediately whenever a 911 call is made. Locate911-N automates VoIP phone tracking, ensuring data accuracy for improved emergency response and E911 compliance. The applications now are compliance-tested by Avaya for compatibility with Communication Server 1000 (CS 1000) Release 6.0.

SMBs more aggressive in technology adoption, CompTIA study finds
Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) across the United States are increasingly relying on new IT solutions to strengthen their operational, marketing and customer engagement activities, according to a new study released today by CompTIA. CompTIA's Second Annual SMB Technology Adoption Trends study shows a significant majority of U.S. SMBs (80 percent) are looking for technology solutions that "deliver immediate payback in terms of minimum disruption of business continuity and seamless integration with existing solutions." Additionally, 71 percent of SMBs - businesses with 10 to 499 employees - say they are willing to pay a premium for new solutions with a proven return on investment. IT solutions SMBs are considering include virtualization, unified communications, managed services, open source applications and mobility upgrades. Top IT priorities for U.S. SMBs include keeping up with storage demands; managing ever-increasing numbers of devices and networks to accommodate mobile and telecommuting workers; and providing richer customer experience through the web.

Mobile
Is VoIP the future of mobile?
It appears that VoIP calls may soon be replacing cellular calls as the mobile calling platform of choice among both business users and consumers. Toktumi recently conducted a survey of their Line2 iPhone users asking them if they would be interested in using Line2 as their primary dialer instead of the built-in iPhone cell dialer. Over 82% (998 out of 1210) respondents said they would be interested in switching to Line2 VoIP as their primary mode of calling. Also of note is that 14% of Line2 users are using the iPod Touch and iPad as alternatives to traditional cell phones for making mobile calls. The United States has more Wi-Fi hotspots than any other country in the world. This makes Wi-Fi calling using Line2 on these devices a viable alternative to a traditional cell phone. The number one reason users gave for trying Line2 was to make calls over Wi-Fi VoIP due to poor cell reception. Line2 solves this problem without requiring customers to juggle between different applications and unfamiliar calling methods. Dialing a number is the same whether the call is placed over Wi-Fi or Cellular.
