Avaya
Avaya named contact center infrastructure leader
Avaya announced that the company was positioned as a Leader in the recently published 2011 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Contact Center Infrastructure, Worldwide.
In the annual report, Avaya was cited as a contact center infrastructure leader based on two key criteria: 'ability to execute' and 'completeness of vision.' Gartner defines contact center infrastructure as "the products (equipment, software and services) needed to operate call centers for basic telephony support and contact centers for multichannel support. This type of infrastructure is used by customer and employee service and support centers, inbound and outbound telemarketing services, help-desk services, government-operated support centers and other types of structured communication operations." Avaya offers a range of contact center solutions including Avaya Aura Contact Center, which enables businesses to deliver high-quality agent-assisted experiences across multimedia channels, and Avaya Aura Call Center Elite, the company's powerful voice-based customer routing solution. Both integrate with Avaya Aura, which provides SIP-based communication services that enable unified communications and contact center solutions to be deployed to connected endpoints, regardless of the infrastructure the endpoints reside on.

Cisco announces additional detail on comprehensive action plan
Cisco announced additional details of its comprehensive action plan to simplify the organization, refine operations and reduce annual operating expenses. As part of the company’s $1 billion annual operating expense reduction, Cisco will reduce its global workforce across all functions by approximately 6,500 employees, which includes approximately 2,100 employees who elected to participate in a voluntary early retirement program. This also includes a reduction totaling approximately 15 percent of vice president level and above employees. This represents a reduction of approximately 9 percent of Cisco’s regular full-time workforce. All affected employees will receive severance pay and outplacement assistance. Impacted employees in the United States, Canada and select countries will be notified during the first week of August. The remainder of the global workforce reductions are expected to occur at a later date in compliance with local laws and regulations. Cisco also announced an agreement for sale of its set-top box manufacturing facility in Juarez, Mexico, to Foxconn Technology Group. The approximately 5,000 people employed at the facility will become employees of Foxconn in the first quarter of fiscal 2012 and no job losses are expected as a result of the sale.

Business mobile VoIP usage to approach 83 million lines/seats in 2015, says In-Stat
Mobile VoIP is an extension of VoIP that allows for IP-based calls to be made from a mobile handset. Voice traffic travels over the available broadband connection, whether that connection is 3G, EDGE, Wi-Fi, or GPRS. Like fixed VoIP, mobile VoIP is being adopted in both the consumer and business segments, but has only recently begun to be implemented in the business environment. Yet growth rates are strong and by the end of the forecast period in 2015, users will have grown to nearly 83 million lines/seats, according to In-Stat. Some of the research findings include:
-
Business mobile VoIP users will increase tenfold over the next five years.
-
IP PBX users will account for the majority of business mobile VoIP usage.
-
Mobile operators are increasingly embracing mobile VoIP as they realize that demand for these offerings is not subsiding.
-
Hotspots open the potential for using VoIP over Wi-Fi as more of a mobile service rather than a residential or business service.
Recent In-Stat research, The Business of Mobile VoIP: IP Voice Communications in the Enterprise, explores the emerging market for business mobile VoIP offerings.
