Cisco
Consolidated Communications deploys Cisco Carrier Ethernet System
Consolidated Communications has deployed the Cisco Carrier Ethernet System to support new and upgraded services for residential and business customers in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas. The Cisco Carrier Ethernet System is a pre-tested, end-to-end network solution that minimizes the time and technical resources required to test and validate network performance. Driven by customer demand for more high-definition channels, greater video-on-demand options and faster Internet access, the new Consolidated Communications network will provide the capacity and the end-to-end quality-of-service (QoS) necessary to ensure that one network can deliver a mix of consumer voice, video and data traffic along with mission-critical business services. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers were chosen for their scalability to 100GE, multicast performance for efficient video distribution and ultra availability with the Cisco IOS XR operating system. Consolidated Communications also selected the Cisco Carrier Ethernet System for IPv6, which is part of the Cisco Carrier Grade IPv6 solution and is designed to allow existing IPv4 users to make the transition easily to IPv6.

LEVEL 3 SIP delivers nomadic E-911 for Lync
LEVEL 3 Communications announced their Nomadic Enhanced 911(E-911) solution for Microsoft Lync. The LEVEL 3 network is able to receive E-911 information from Lync server 2010 via their SIP Trunking service, determine the appropriate local public safety answering point (PSAP), and route the call and specific location address information to an emergency operator. Because the LEVEL 3 network is IP end-to-end they are able to provide direct E-911 integration between their SIP trunking and the VoIP Positioning Center (VPC) database. This capability also enables a more seamless updating of the Automatic Location Identification (ALI) databases maintained by local governments to support their PSAPs. Thus, emergency operators are able to receive current and much more specific location information for the person making the call. LEVEL 3’s E-911 solution does not require any additional server hardware or the end-user terminal devices as long as they are Lync compliant.

Infonetics releases market share report
Market research firm Infonetics Research released its second quarter 2011 (2Q11) Enterprise Unified Communication, VoIP, and TDM Equipment vendor market share report, led by VoIP and IMS analyst Diane Myers: “The top enterprise telephony vendors remain in a tight battle to gain new customers and hold onto existing ones as enterprises migrate to IP and unified communications solutions. For the third quarter in a row, Avaya came out on top in the overall PBX market, with about a quarter of worldwide revenue in the second quarter of 2011, helped by steady shipments and healthy average selling prices. Cisco maintains its strong second position despite a slight lead in overall line shipments.” Other highlights:
--Global PBX/KTS phone system revenue declined 2.3% sequentially in 2Q11 to $2.02 billion, but is up 3.9% from a year ago (2Q10), continuing its path of slow and steady recovery on year-over-year basis.
--Unified Communications (UC) revenue increased 2.3% sequentially in 2Q11 to $112.4 million on the strength of Microsoft UC solutions that continue to gain in deployments worldwide.
--Aastra, Miteland ShoreTel are the only vendors posting positive PBX revenue gains in 2Q11 over 1Q11.
--The PBX market in Asia Pacific is proving resilient amidst the turmoil and sequential ups and downs of other regions, with four straight quarters of sequential PBX revenue growth. PBX revenue in Asia Pacific is up 29% year-over-year (2Q11 vs. 2Q10).

Mobile DRAM market hits $2 billion threshold in Q1
In another sign of the growing prominence of mobile platforms like smartphones, handheld gaming devices and tablets, revenue in the first quarter for mobile dynamic random access memory (DRAM) exceeded the $2 billion level for the first time on a quarterly basis, according to a new Mobile & Embedded Memory Market Brief from information and analysis provider IHS. Global revenue for mobile DRAM hit an astonishing $2.07 billion during the first three months of this year, up 10 percent from an already hefty $1.88 billion in the fourth quarter of 2010. Showing how far the industry’s revenue levels have progressed, the increase between the two quarters of about $190 million was equivalent to almost the entire mobile DRAM market in the first quarter of 2009, when revenue amounted to just $205 million. Revenue in the first quarter this year is also up an impressive 150 percent from the same time last year. Mobile DRAM is the DRAM variant currently preferred for use in mobile applications, including a variety of consumer electronics devices.

Small business spending on wireless services to overtake wireline voice in 2012
It has always been predicted that small business expenditures on wireless services would someday exceed that of wireline voice. That "someday" will be in 2012 as wireless becomes the largest category of telecommunications spending for small businesses, according to new research from In-Stat. Wireline data spending and cloud computing services round out the four spending categories. Additional data includes:
--Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is set to grow 190% from 2010 to 2015. Overall, cloud computing services are the largest growth engines for small business telecom spending.
--Traditional TDM services are set to decline 15% from 2010 to 2015, a loss of over $1 billion.
--Retail trade, along with the hospitality and food vertical will account for over $11.5 billion in spending in 2010.
--The 20-99 employee size portion of the small business segment accounts for over half of all spending in small businesses (5-99 employees).
